Slang is a type of informal language that is often used in everyday conversation but is not appropriate for formal writing. Slang can be a single word or a phrase, and can be regional or develop from communities and subcultures.
• Extra. Means dramatic, attention-grabbing, or too much.
Example: “You don’t have to be so extra about it”.
• Cap. Means truth or not lying.
Example: “The food was so delicious, no cap”
• Gatekeep. When someone doesn’t want to share something.
Example: “This is such a pretty dress, I’ll be gatekeeping this one”
• Flex. refers to showing off
Example: Carlo is flexing his new car
• Ghosted. To end a relationship by cutting off communication.
Example: “Michael hasn’t replying to my texts in over a week, he ghosted me”.
• Slay. someone who has done exceptionally well or impressed others.
Example: “She really slayed the dance”.
• Rent free. Can’t stop thinking about something.
Example: “The pandora ring I saw last week has living rent free in my mind”
• Bet. used as a way to confirm or agree with something.
Example: “I’ll see you at the party tonight!” “Bet!”
• Lit. Something that is amazing or exciting.
Example: “The party last night was lit!”
• Simp. Admiring someone very much.
Example: “He’s a simp for her, he buys everything she likes”
